Nollywood actress, Lola Idije, has cautioned against putting pressure on women to get married early, saying some are destined to marry at 40 or 50 and should not be judged for raising children without husbands.
The actress made the remarks during an appearance on the Africanlist Podcast, where she defended women who take sole responsibility for raising their children.
According to her, not every woman has a husband to support her in raising children, stressing that some women become single mothers due to circumstances beyond their control.
“Not everybody will have a husband to help them raise their children. So women have to carry their burden alone. Not all of them choose that life,” she said.
Lola argued that being unmarried or raising children without a husband does not make a woman irresponsible.
She also questioned the pressure placed on young women to marry, warning that rushing into marriage could lead some into choosing unsuitable partners.
“But if you start pressuring them at 20, how can you be sure that they won’t marry the wrong person?” she asked.
The actress further spoke about motherhood and its impact on women, saying, “When women start giving birth, they become softer.”
