Author Issa Mutolib Ayobami held the official presentation of his new book, Shattered Dreams of a Patriot: A Story of Love and Trials, on Sunday at the State Banquet Hall in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The literary event brought together scholars, political leaders, dignitaries, and book enthusiasts to celebrate the release of the multi-chapter work, which explores themes of personal sacrifice, marital resilience, and Nigeria’s political history.
Examining the literary and biographical elements of the book, Professor Reuben Kehinde Akano, a Professor of African Literature and Cultural Studies at Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete described the work as a narrative that draws from a true-life story while adopting the structural style of a novel.
Professor Akano explained that the narrative chronicles the marital journey of Gbadegesin (also known as Brother Bosun) and his wife, Awele, whose union faced stiff initial opposition.
He noted that the couple’s story is recounted through the perspective of their eldest son, Ladipo, intertwined with broader historical and political developments, including events surrounding the emergence of a Nigerian head of state.
