US President Donald Trump has renewed his threat to launch further military strikes against Iran, warning that Washington may eventually have to take stronger action against Tehran.
Trump made the remarks on Sunday while addressing supporters at a campaign rally in Iowa ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.
The 80-year-old president suggested that he had so far refrained from further military action to avoid additional casualties, but warned that the situation could change.
He said, “And the only reason why I’m not finished with Iran is I want to be nice. I want to try and save all those lives if I can. But at some point we’re going to have to give them the hammer.”
Trump’s warning followed reports that he still had additional targets in Iran to deal with.
In response, Iran warned that any fresh military confrontation with the United States could last longer than the previous round of fighting.
Iranian Army spokesman, Mohammad Akraminia, said Tehran would not allow Washington to determine the timing or conditions for ending any future conflict.
He stated that a potential war could last longer than previous hostilities, adding that the American president would not be in a position to dictate how or when it would end.
