Ondo Police Bust Counterfeit Dollar Operation, Arrest Suspect

Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have dismantled a suspected counterfeit currency production centre in Kiniso village, Ajue, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

The operation led to the arrest of one suspect, while three bags containing suspected counterfeit United States dollar notes were recovered.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this, stating that the operation followed a complaint lodged by one Yusuf Nasiru, a resident of Sabo, Okitipupa.

According to Jimoh, the complainant reported that two men, identified as Peter Desmond and Olami Toro, both residents of Ode-Irele, approached him at his shop and expressed interest in exchanging US dollars for their naira equivalent.

He said Nasiru handed over $6,000, estimated at about N8.6 million, to the men for the transaction.

However, the suspects allegedly returned the money, claiming they lacked sufficient funds to complete the exchange, before leaving the shop.

The complainant reportedly discovered later, after carefully examining the notes, that the dollars returned to him were counterfeit, prompting him to report the incident to the police.
