Wike denies involvement in court judgment against Uzodimma

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has denied any involvement in the recent Federal High Court judgment that nullified the recognition of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, as the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate for Imo West senatorial district in the 2027 general elections.

Wike made this known on Thursday while answering questions during his media parley in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

He dismissed claims linking him to the judgment, describing those associating his name with the court ruling as mischievous.

The minister, however, openly admitted that he disagrees with Uzodimma over his Rainbow Coalition initiative but denied involvement in the ongoing internal political disagreements within the APC.

“What is Uzodimma afraid of? Our priorities should be working to see the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027. If there is an initiative to achieve that, then what is the issue?” he asked.

Recall that Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Thursday, October 29, nullified Uzodimma’s emergence as the APC senatorial candidate for the January 16, 2027 election.

The court ruled that former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, won the APC senatorial primary conducted on May 18, 2026, and directed the party to submit his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as its candidate.

The court also restrained Uzodimma from parading himself as the party’s candidate for the district.

Following the judgment, an old video showing Wike and Okorocha dancing and celebrating together resurfaced on social media.

Some social media users linked the video to the court ruling, alleging that Wike may have worked behind the scenes to help Okorocha secure the senatorial ticket at the expense of Uzodimma.

However, Wike has dismissed the allegations, insisting that he had no hand in the judgment.
