Insecurity: Amofin Akogun Commends Igbomina Youth Assembly, Kwara South Youth Congress, Stakeholders

Kwara South is awakening — and it’s heartening to witness. Just yesterday, following my press statement (copied to His Excellency, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Executive Governor), the Igbomina Youth Assembly, Kwara South Youth Congress, Abdulganiyu Abdulgafar, and other worthy ambassadors of Kwara South also raised their voices against the growing insecurity in our region.

I must commend these noble organizations and individuals for sounding the alarm and calling for urgent intervention in our once very safe region.

We are deeply grateful that the kidnapped victims have regained their freedom.

However, let it be made clear: we are speaking out not because the victims are known to us, and certainly not for political gain — but out of genuine love for Kwara South and its people.

We must not wait until the wave of kidnappings reaches our own doorsteps.

Regrettably, some officials and members of the ruling party have attempted to downplay the crisis, perhaps because they benefit from the current administration. But insecurity, like inflation and the ripple effects of bad policies, knows no party lines. Both PDP and APC members buy food at the same markets — and kidnappers do not ask for your party card before striking.

We must be patriotic Kwara Southerners first, before identifying as politicians. This is our only home.

We urge the Kwara State Government not to rest on its oars because of this temporary success. What we need now are proactive, preventive strategies — not just reactive responses. Since 2024, our traditional rulers have consistently raised alarm over the rising insecurity in the region. Their concerns must not be ignored.

We will continue to speak out, give credit where it’s due, and hold leadership accountable to ensure Kwara South never becomes a haven for insecurity.
