The National Police Council has confirmed Olatunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police.
Following this confirmation, his name will now be sent to the Senate for screening and final ratification.
9japarrot reports that Disu was first appointed as Acting IGP on February 25, 2026 by President Tinubu after the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
President Bola Tinubu says a meeting of the Police Council would be held to formally consider Disu’s appointment before sending it to the Senate.
The 59-year-old former AIG officially assumed office at a brief ceremony at Louis Edet House in Abuja following his decorations by the President as acting IGP shortly before taking over as Nigeria’s new Police Chief.
