Member representing Share/Oke-Ode Constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Owolabi Olatunde Razaq, on Saturday rolled out a multi-million naira empowerment programme for his constituents, distributing vehicles, motorcycles, cash grants and vocational tools to boost livelihoods across communities.
The event, held at the open field of Community Secondary School, Babanloma in Ifelodun Local Government Area, attracted party leaders, stakeholders, beneficiaries and residents from Offa, Oyun and Ifelodun councils.
Speaking at the event, the Kwara State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, represented by the Vice Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Sanmari, commended Owolabi for what he described as consistent delivery of democratic dividends, noting that his projects and empowerment initiatives reflected responsive and people-oriented leadership.
He said the lawmaker’s interventions had continued to uplift living standards and strengthen public confidence in the APC-led administration in the state.
Addressing the gathering, Owolabi said the programme was designed not as charity but as a deliberate effort to build capacity and create sustainable means of livelihood for the people.
According to him, beneficiaries included youths trained in tailoring who received start-up kits, market women given interest-free revolving grants, farmers supported with modern tools and inputs, and students empowered with income-generating items such as commercial vehicles and motorcycles.
He added that provisions were also made for local security outfits, including vigilantes and forest guards, to enhance community safety.
“When you train a tailor, you clothe a community; when you fund a farmer, you feed a constituency; and when you empower a woman, you build generations,” he said.
Stakeholders at the event described the initiative as unprecedented, praising the lawmaker’s commitment to grassroots development and noting that his style of representation stood him out among his peers.
Items distributed at the programme included buses, motorcycles, freezers, industrial and sewing machines, grinding machines, farm tools, as well as cash grants.
Some beneficiaries, who spoke with journalists, expressed gratitude for the gesture, saying the support would significantly improve their economic conditions. They also urged the lawmaker to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency in the next general elections.
