The incumbent lawmaker representing Asa/Ilorin West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Muktar Tolani Shagaya has secured a landslide victory to clear the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election held on Saturday.
Shagaya, who currently serves as the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Basic Education and Services, defeated three other contestants in a landslide victory to retain the ruling party’s ticket for the 2027 general elections.
Announcing the official results at the designated constituency collation centre in Ilorin, the APC electoral committee declared that Shagaya polled a total of 77,625 votes to defeat his closest rival, Hon. Amosa who secured 6,340 votes.
The two other aspirants in the legislative race Hon. Muhammad Kabeer and Hon. Mopelola garnered 1,487 and 623 votes respectively.
The primary election, which drew thousands of party faithful and accredited delegates across the various wards of Asa and Ilorin West Local Government Areas, was described by observers as orderly and peaceful.
Speaking shortly after he was declared winner, an elated Shagaya expressed gratitude to the leadership of the party, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the delegates for reaffirming their confidence in his legislative blueprint.
He noted that the massive turnout and the overwhelming vote margin were testimonies to his performance-driven representation in the 10th National Assembly, where he has championed several high-impact bills, including the proposed establishment of the Federal Medical Centre, Afon, and the Federal Cancer Research and Treatment Center, Asa.
“This victory belongs to the good people of Asa and Ilorin West,” Shagaya said.
“It is a mandate to continue our structural transformation, grassroots empowerment, and qualitative educational advocacy at the Green Chamber. We will not relent.” He added.
The primary exercise in the federal constituency was heavily monitored by security agencies, independent observers, and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Party stakeholders within the constituency have lauded the outcome, describing it as a vital step toward maintaining internal cohesion and strengthening the APC’s dominance in Kwara Central ahead of the general elections.
