The controversy surrounding the conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives Primary Elections in Kwara State has continued to escalate as party members, stakeholders and aspirants in Baruten/Kaiama Federal Constituency have unanimously rejected the purported results allegedly declared for the constituency, insisting that no valid primary election was conducted across the 21 wards of the federal constituency.
According to reports gathered from party faithfuls and stakeholders across the constituency, APC members turned out massively in anticipation of participating in the direct primaries as scheduled by the party. However, party members who assembled across the 10 wards of Kaiama Local Government Area and the 11 wards of Baruten Local Government Area reportedly waited endlessly without the arrival of electoral materials, electoral officers or party officials to conduct any form of accreditation, voting or affirmation exercise.
The shocking development has since generated widespread outrage among party members who now question how results allegedly emerged despite the complete absence of any electoral process across both local governments.
Stakeholders and aspirants within the constituency have described the purported declaration of results as completely inconsistent with realities on ground and a direct contradiction of the APC guidelines for direct primaries as well as the provisions of the Electoral Act.
Particularly disturbing to party members is the name being paraded as the purported winner of the exercise, Hon. Saidu Baba Ahmed, an incumbent member of the Kwara State House of Assembly from Kaiama LGA. Many party faithfuls across the federal constituency have openly questioned the credibility of claims that Hon. Saidu Baba Ahmed secured thousands of votes across Baruten and Kaiama Local Government Areas despite widespread reports that he neither actively campaigned nor substantially engaged party members across the local government throughout the period leading to the primaries.
Stakeholders insist that the alleged outcome completely contradicts the political realities within the constituency, as many members consider Hon. Saidu Baba to be one of the least accepted aspirants in the race owing to widespread dissatisfaction surrounding his performance as a serving lawmaker.
Party members have further expressed disappointment over what they described as years of poor representation, limited grassroots engagement and the absence of meaningful developmental projects capable of justifying the controversial figures now being associated with the primaries.
The situation has further intensified concerns over alleged interference by powerful interests within the party. Several stakeholders have specifically linked the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, to alleged attempts to influence and manipulate the process in favour of Hon. Saidu Baba Ahmed despite his expected responsibility as a leader to protect democratic principles, internal party justice and fairness.
According to aggrieved party members, the developments in Baruten/Kaiama Federal Constituency reflect a broader and disturbing pattern of alleged manipulation, falsification of results and outright non-conduct of direct primaries reportedly witnessed across several federal constituencies in Kwara State.
Consequently, party members, stakeholders and concerned groups have called for the immediate cancellation of the House of Representatives primary results across affected constituencies and urged the national leadership of the APC to urgently intervene in order to preserve the integrity of the party and prevent a looming internal crisis ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
The concerned members stressed that what transpired across many parts of Kwara State cannot be regarded as democratic primaries but rather the imposition of candidates against the wishes, participation and democratic rights of genuine party members.
They warned that recognizing fabricated results from constituencies where no elections held would further damage the credibility of the APC, weaken internal unity and create avoidable divisions capable of threatening the party’s future electoral fortunes in the State.
The stakeholders therefore urged the leadership of the APC to redeem the image of the party by ensuring a transparent review of the process and ordering fresh, credible and transparent primaries in all affected constituencies where evidence clearly indicates that no election took place.
Attention is also being directed toward His Excellency, Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON, Executive Governor of Kwara State and Leader of the APC in the State, whom party members believe must now provide leadership by promoting fairness, redress and internal reconciliation in order to better position the party ahead of the forthcoming Senate, House of Assembly and Governorship Primaries in Kwara State.
The concerned stakeholders maintained that the survival, strength and credibility of the APC as a democratic institution depend largely on its commitment to fairness, transparency and respect for the will of party members.
They reaffirmed their resolve to continue demanding justice, credible democratic processes and internal accountability within the party in the overall interest of unity, peace and the future electoral success of the APC in Kwara State.
