Ahead of Sunday’s scheduled opposition primaries, the national leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, CON has announced Engr. Kale Kawu as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 Kwara State gubernatorial election.
The announcement follows days of intense, closed-door stakeholders’ meetings, diplomatic maneuverings, and deep strategic consultations aimed at positioning the main opposition party to reclaim power in the state.
The emergence of Kawu a veteran technocrat, administrator, and political strategist effectively resolves what was building up to be a highly polarized and fractious primary contest among various political interest blocs within the Kwara PDP.
In an official statement personally signed by him on Saturday and obtained by 9japarrot media, Senator Saraki commended the alternative frontline gubernatorial aspirants for their exceptional patriotism, party loyalty, and willingness to step down their individual ambitions to forge a unified progressive front.
He emphasized that this collective sacrifice and demonstration of selflessness are the exact structural ingredients required to build a formidable campaign structure capable of achieving victory at the main polls.
“I am pleased to announce that, after extensive consultations with stakeholders of the Kwara PDP and our leading gubernatorial aspirants, we have arrived at a consensus candidate to fly the flag of our great party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election,” Senator Saraki stated.
“That candidate is Engr. Kale Kawu. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the other aspirants who, in the supreme interest of our party and state, have graciously stepped down to support this consensus. It is this spirit of unity and selflessness that will carry us to victory.” He added.
With the consensus agreement firmly sealed by the national leader, the scheduled PDP gubernatorial primary election slated for tomorrow, Sunday, is now expected to be a peaceful ratification and validation exercise by party delegates across the sixteen local government areas.
Saraki charged all party structures, statutory delegates, and grassroots mobilizers to maintain the highest levels of orderliness, discipline, and unity during tomorrow’s outing, framing the seamless transition as a demonstration of the party’s maturity and readiness to provide alternative governance.
