Makinde Reaffirms Commitment to Rescue of Abducted Oriire Pupils and Teachers

By Monsurat Abisoye

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has assured residents that his administration remains committed to securing the safe release of the pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area.

In his monthly newsletter, the governor acknowledged the anguish and uncertainty experienced by families and communities since the victims were kidnapped 27 days ago from schools in the Yawota and Ahoro-Esinle communities. He described the incident as a painful period for the state, noting that affected families have continued to endure anxiety over the fate of their loved ones.

Makinde admitted that repeated assurances may have left some residents sceptical, but stressed that efforts to rescue the victims have remained unwavering. According to him, security agencies are pursuing every credible lead and employing all lawful means to ensure the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers.

He disclosed that intelligence reports suggest the victims are still being held within the wider Old Oyo National Park axis, an expansive area covering about 2,500 square kilometres across approximately 10 local government areas. The governor explained that the challenging terrain has complicated rescue operations, requiring patience, strategic coordination and sustained efforts from security personnel.

Makinde urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the state’s toll-free emergency number, 615. He also cautioned against the circulation of unverified information that could jeopardise ongoing security operations.

Reassuring affected families that their loved ones have not been forgotten, the governor said the safe return of the victims remains a top priority for both the state government and security agencies.

“We are doing everything within our power to bring them home safely,” he stated, while appealing to residents to continue praying for the successful rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers.
