Lagos Announces Traffic Diversions Ahead of Temporary Iddo Bridge Closure

By Monsurat Abisoye

The Lagos State Government has unveiled a traffic diversion plan ahead of the temporary closure of Iddo Bridge in the Ijora area of Apapa Local Government Area to facilitate ongoing rehabilitation works.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the closure would enable the Federal Ministry of Works to install heavy steel beams as part of the bridge reconstruction project.

According to the government, the entire bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic during specific periods to ensure the safe installation of the steel structures. The first closure will take place from 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 17 June 2026, to 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, while a second shutdown is scheduled for Sunday, 21 June 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Motorists travelling from Oyingbo and Yaba towards Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain have been advised to use Funsho Williams Avenue as an alternative route. Those heading from Marina to Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain should divert through the Iddo-Onigbe/Oyingbo ramp and connect to Murtala Muhammed Way.

Similarly, road users travelling from Ijora Olopa and Apapa towards Carter Bridge and Marina are advised to access Eko Bridge via Apapa Road and continue through Murtala Muhammed Way, linking Iddo-Onigbe and Carter Bridge.

The state government appealed to residents and commuters to remain patient and cooperate with traffic management officials during the temporary disruption.

Officials noted that the diversion arrangement forms part of broader measures aimed at supporting the Federal Ministry of Works’ ongoing rehabilitation of Iddo Bridge and ensuring the safety of road users throughout the exercise.
