Police Arrest 46 Suspects Over Attack on Peter Obi’s Convoy in Benue

Operatives of the Benue State Police Command have arrested 46 suspects in connection with the attack and blockade of the convoy of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiogbu, disclosed this on Wednesday, stating that investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Nwadiogbu said the command is also trailing key leaders of the youths allegedly involved in the incident, assuring that all those found culpable would be made to face the law.

He warned that the police would not tolerate political intolerance, violence or other acts capable of threatening peace in the state as the 2027 general elections draw closer.

The arrests followed the blockade of Obi’s convoy on the Makurdi Gboko federal highway while he was travelling to Yelewata to meet and commiserate with victims of the June 2025 attacks.

Trouble reportedly began a few metres from the airport when Obi’s convoy encountered a roadblock mounted by youths on the two-lane federal highway.

The police command said it would continue its investigation to identify every individual connected to the incident and take appropriate legal action.
