The Kwara State Government has finalized plans to officially open the Institute of Contemporary African Art & Film (ICAAF) in Ilorin on Monday, October 26, 2026, featuring a free commemorative exhibition titled “Fela — A Retrospective,” celebrating Afrobeat pioneer and social activist Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

The announcement was contained in an official press statement issued in Ilorin by the Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bolanle Olukoju, and signed by the Press Secretary of the Ministry, Abeeb Oredunni.

Curated and produced by June Creative Art Advisory (JCAA), according to the statement obtained by 9japarrot, the exhibition will run through December 31, 2026, offering free admission to members of the public, students, and creative enthusiasts.

The retrospective will feature photographs, archival documents, audio recordings, film reels, and historical objects showcasing Fela’s musical legacy, philosophical contributions, and historic performance at the Niger Hotel in Ilorin on August 30, 1971.

“The exhibition aligns with the vision of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON for a Kwara State that continues to harness its cultural heritage, creative talent, and tourism potential as vital drivers of economic development,” Olukoju stated.

Alongside the core exhibits, the multi-month showcase will incorporate guided tours, educational school visits, and technical creative workshops designed to train young talents across music, film, design, and visual arts while expanding the state’s creative economy.
