Chris Brown Gets Eight-Month Suspended Prison Sentence Over London Nightclub Assault

American singer Chris Brown has received an eight-month suspended prison sentence in the United Kingdom over his role in an assault on music producer Abraham Diaw at a London nightclub in February 2023.

The 37-year-old singer was sentenced on Monday, October 26, 2026, at Southwark Crown Court after pleading guilty to one count of affray in July. The sentence was suspended for 12 months, meaning he will not serve immediate jail time but could be imprisoned if he violates the conditions of his suspension.

The case relates to an incident at Tape nightclub in Mayfair, central London, where Brown allegedly struck Diaw twice on the head with a glass tequila bottle. The producer sustained injuries to his head and knee.

Prosecutors informed the court that CCTV footage captured the incident, which also involved Brown’s vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, who participated in the attack.

Akinlolu, 40, was handed a four-month suspended prison sentence, also for 12 months. Both men were further ordered to pay £1,500 in costs.

During sentencing, Judge Tony Baumgartner described the assault as dangerous, noting that hitting someone on the head with a glass bottle could have resulted in more serious injuries. He also emphasized that a person’s commercial success would not entitle them to special treatment under the law.

Brown was arrested in Manchester in May 2025 after arriving in the UK for a concert, more than two years after the incident. He initially faced charges including assault and attempted grievous bodily harm but later pleaded guilty to affray, prompting prosecutors to drop the remaining charges.

The sentencing concludes the criminal proceedings relating to the nightclub incident, with Brown avoiding immediate imprisonment.
