The Kwara South Community Development Forum has issued an urgent appeal to the Federal Government, calling for immediate emergency palliative works and comprehensive reconstruction across major federal road corridors in Kwara South Senatorial District to curb rising insecurity and economic decline.
The forum comprising leadership across the Igbomina, Ekiti, and Ibolo geopolitical blocs made the call on Monday, October 26, 2026, during a joint press conference convened to highlight the alarming deterioration of interstate transit routes.
In a joint statement signed by Sir Bisi Fakayode (President, Igbomina Bloc), Engr. Bashir Lawal, FNSE (President, Ibolo Bloc), and Prof. J.S. Omotosho (President, Ekiti Bloc), the stakeholders identified two major federal corridors facing severe structural failure: the Ilorin–Omu-Aran–Eruku–Kogi State boundary road and the Ajase-Ipo–Offa–Erin-Ile–Osun State boundary road.
The coalition emphasized that the failing road conditions have transcended economic friction to become severe security hazards, enabling criminal elements and kidnappers to target stranded motorists while obstructing swift response times from security personnel.
“The deplorable condition of federal roads across Kwara South has become not only an economic and developmental challenge but also a serious threat to the security and safety of our people,” the forum stated.
“Criminal elements are taking advantage of these road conditions to carry out kidnappings, exposing innocent citizens to danger. Enough is enough.” they added.
Highlighting the economic toll on the agricultural hub, the forum noted that the transport bottlenecks have severely disrupted the evacuation of farm produce to urban markets, worsening poverty and inflation across farming communities in Ifelodun, Irepodun, Oke-Ero, Ekiti, Offa, and Oyun Local Government Areas.
Outlining their specific demands, the Kwara South leaders called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Ministry of Works, and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to immediately initiate a technical assessment, carry out emergency palliative interventions on hazardous spots, and capture the corridors in sustainable federal infrastructure budgets for complete reconstruction.
The forum also appealed to Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to exercise his good offices to facilitate speedy federal intervention, while urging law enforcement agencies to intensify security patrols along vulnerable interstate transit routes.
