Two Allegedly Shot as ADC Supporters Head to Atiku’s Rally in Sokoto

Two suspected supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have reportedly sustained gunshot injuries following an alleged shooting involving operatives of the Sokoto State Community Guards along Sokoto–Wurno Road on Wednesday.

The incident reportedly occurred as supporters were travelling to attend the presidential campaign rally of the party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in Sokoto State.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the Community Guards barricaded the road linking Sokoto metropolis with the eastern part of the state, forcing vehicles conveying supporters to turn back.

The shooting was said to have followed an altercation between the operatives and occupants of a vehicle conveying some supporters, during which the guards allegedly opened fire, injuring two persons.

The victims were subsequently taken to a hospital for medical attention.

A source disclosed that the intervention of the Civilian JTF in the convoy of Senator Ibrahim Lamido, coordinator of the Sokoto State ADC Presidential Campaign Council, was required before vehicles were allowed to pass through the checkpoint.

The incident has heightened concerns over the safety of political supporters and freedom of movement during campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It also comes amid existing tensions between the ADC and security operatives in the state, following an earlier allegation that Community Guards attacked the party’s governorship candidate, Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto.

However, the Sokoto State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Ahmad Rufai, said the command had yet to receive a report of the alleged shooting and could not confirm the incident.
