The vice presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has accused officials serving under President Bola Tinubu of losing every sense of shame over the country’s worsening economic situation.
The former Rivers State governor made the allegation on Friday while speaking on News Central TV, where he criticised the administration for seeking another four-year term in 2027 despite the hardship Nigerians are experiencing.
Amaechi argued that members of the government should be ashamed of their performance and allow other Nigerians to take over and address the country’s challenges.
He said, “The current president has put us in this suffering. I don’t know why he wants to run. I don’t even know why APC wants to participate. They should be in shame and allow other Nigerians to participate and change the country.”
He blamed the country’s hardship on the ‘Emilokan’ political slogan that contributed to Tinubu’s emergence as president, arguing that hunger and economic difficulties affect Nigerians regardless of their religion or region.
According to him, there is no separate market for Christians, Muslims, northerners or southerners, stressing that economic hardship is a common experience across the country.
“It is Emilokan that brought us here. It is ‘our turn’ that brought us here. It is the turn of Nigerians,” he said.
Amaechi further urged Nigerians to assess candidates based on their performance ahead of the 2027 general elections rather than supporting them because of their ethnic, religious or regional backgrounds.
The former Minister of Transportation also expressed embarrassment over President Tinubu’s commissioning of a 16-kilometre road, arguing that such a project should ordinarily be handled by a local government chairman rather than the President.
