The Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA) has provided rescue support for an incident involving a tanker carrying 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) that overturned and spilled its contents at Okebadan, Agugu, Ibadan.
According to the Executive Chairman of the agency, Major Adesagba Adekoya (rtd), who responded promptly, alongside other agencies including the Oyo State Fire Service, Amotekun operatives, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Oyo State Security Network Agency, the incident was a result of a faulty turntable.
He disclosed that there was no loss of life, but the situation, however, caused traffic gridlock on the road.
Major Adesagba urged members of the public to maintain caution while driving on roads, especially when carrying heavy loads.
He has also advised drivers of tankers and other heavy-duty vehicles to ensure their vehicles are in good working condition before embarking on a journey.
“Road users are advised to exercise patience during this period and cooperate with traffic officers who are working to get the situation under control,” he said.
The OYRTMA boss lauded other sister agencies and individuals who have assisted in responding to the incident and managing the situation thus far, while the agency reiterated its commitment to ensuring road safety for all road users in the state.
Meanwhile, the location has been cordoned off, while the content has been transloaded to another tanker.
