President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the immediate rollout of free healthcare for low-income retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS). He also ordered the prompt implementation of long-overdue pension increases and a minimum pension guarantee to protect vulnerable pensioners.
During a briefing with the Director General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, President Tinubu also called for an urgent resolution of the police pension issue, stressing the need to ensure a dignified retirement for law enforcement personnel.
Additional reforms discussed include:
• Measures to preserve pension fund value amid inflation
• Plans to allow Nigerians in the diaspora to contribute to the pension system using foreign currencies
President Tinubu expressed strong support for the proposed pension reforms and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive growth, dignity in retirement, and social protection for ordinary Nigerians.
