Kwara 2027: Power-Shift To North Gains Momentum, Gets Ibolo Youths, Stakeholders’ Endorsement

The advocacy for power rotation to Kwara North in 2027 has again, received a major boost on Sunday, October 26, 2025, as the Ibolo bloc of Kwara south Senatorial district, comprising Offa and Oyun Local Government Areas, openly declared support for the Kwara North governorship 2027 agenda. The endorsement came during a high-level consultative Town-hall meeting organized by the Kwara North Youth Consultative Forum (KNYCF), held at the Offa Descendants Union (ODU) Town Hall, Offa.

It can be recalled that stakeholders of the Ekiti bloc of Kwara south Senatorial district, comprising of Ekiti and Okeero had earlier expressed their resolve to back the call for power shift to Kwara North Senatorial district in the forthcoming 2027 gubernatorial election.

The recent engagement brought together influential youth leaders, traditional stakeholders, women representatives, and political figures from across the Ibolo Kingdoms to deliberate on the need for equity and inclusion in the political leadership of Kwara State. The session formed part of the KNYCF’s ongoing statewide consultation to rally support for the Kwara North 2027 governorship project.

Leading the KNYCF delegation were the Chairman, Dr. Abduldayan Aisha Haruna, and the Vice Chairperson, Mallama Balqis Ladi Yaqub, alongside other zonal coordinators and youth representatives from the five Local Government Areas of Kwara North.

In his remarks, Dr. Abduldayan Aisha Haruna expressed deep appreciation to the Ibolo people for their warm reception and sense of fairness, noting that the Kwara North governorship aspiration is not a sectional cause but a collective quest for justice. “Our demand is simple and sincere – Kwara North has stood with others over the years; now, it is our turn to be supported. This is about fairness, inclusion, and the unity of Kwara State,” he said.

Echoing this, the KNYCF publicity secretary, Hon. Nura Muhammed reaffirmed the historical and political bonds between Kwara North and the Ibolo Kingdom, emphasizing the importance of equity in sustaining harmony in the state. He observed that while Kwara Central has produced governors for over 20 years and Kwara South for 8 years, Kwara North has yet to produce a governor in the state’s 26-year democratic history. “The Ibolo people are known for standing by the truth, and we believe they will once again be on the side of justice,” he added.

The event was attended by prominent personalities, including the Speaker of Offa Local Government Legislative Council, Hon. Tayo Olanrewaju, and the former Accord Party Chairmanship Candidate in Offa LGA, Mallam Aliyu Ibrahim, among other stakeholders who all pledged their support for the Kwara North project.

A representative of the women at the meeting reaffirmed their alignment with the cause, describing their position as both “moral and historical.” According to her, “Fairness demands that power should rotate to Kwara North in 2027. We stand with equity, and we stand with justice.”

The meeting ended on a note of unity and resolve, as both parties agreed to deepen collaboration between Ibolo and Kwara North, strengthen youth inclusion in politics, and sustain advocacy for power rotation across the state.

The consultation gained further traction when the Onipe of Ipeland, Oba Muftau Adebayo Lawal Titiloye III, gave his royal blessing and endorsement of the Kwara North agenda, describing the call for power shift as “long overdue.” He made this known when the Forum paid him a visit at his Palace in the Ipe Community. The monarch commended the KNYCF for its peaceful advocacy and praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for promoting fairness and inclusiveness in governance. He assured the delegation that he would communicate their message to fellow traditional rulers across the Ibolo axis and Kwara South to strengthen the collective call for justice and unity.

The visit to Offa and Ipe marks another major milestone in the KNYCF’s statewide consultations, symbolizing a growing alliance for fairness, peace, and inclusion. With the endorsement of the Onipe of Ipeland and the overwhelming support from Ibolo youths and stakeholders, the Kwara North 2027 Governorship Agenda continues to gather strength and legitimacy across Kwara State.
