The clamor for a Kwara North successor to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has again gained momentum on Saturday as Kwara Youth under the aegis of Kwara Youth Progressive Alliance (KYPA) held a press conference tagged “Call for Responsible Leadership.”
Led by Manko Hawau, the alliance comprising prominent youth leaders and young professionals from across the 16 Local Government Areas formally appealed to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to adopt Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking on behalf of the alliance, Manko Hawau revealed that the call was not a knee-jerk political move but the result of five months of extensive consultations. The group engaged with grassroots party leaders, elders, diaspora Kwarans, and various support groups to gauge the pulse of the electorate.
“The outcome of our engagements reflects a singular, strong desire: Inclusivity and Justice. For decades, Kwara North has been denied the opportunity to occupy the state’s highest executive office. The APC now carries a moral responsibility to correct this historical imbalance.” the group said.
While advocating for the zoning of the governorship ticket to Kwara North, KYPA was quick to emphasize that their demand was not a call for charity. The group maintained that Senator Sadiq Umar is the perfect intersection of regional equity and technocratic competence.
They highlighted his proven experience in governance, policy engagement, and development initiatives as key advantage over other contenders.
Citing his maturity, calm disposition, and ability to unite various factions within the party, the group expressed absolute confidence in his capacity to consolidate the exemplary leadership of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq in infrastructure, healthcare, and education.
The alliance used the platform to issue a three-point resolution aimed at shifting the state’s political gear as they officially called on Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar to break his silence and formally declare his intention to contest.
They made appeal to the ruling All Progressive Congress APC party to adopt the Senator as a consensus candidate to prevent internal friction and ensure party unity.
Conclusively, they respectful appeal to Governor Abdulrazaq to support the emergence of a successor who can sustainably advance his administration’s legacy.
