The ancient town of Offa, Kwara state, was on Friday brought to a standstill as the All Progressives Congress (APC) held a mega rally to endorse Salihu Yakubu Danladi, Speaker of the state house of assembly for the 2027 governorship race.
The massive procession, which also served as a solidarity march for the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu, saw large numbers of supporters who traverse major landmarks in the town.
The march commenced at the ODU Hall along Olofa Way, moving through Idi-Ogun, Bovas, and Osunte, before terminating in a grand assembly at Emiola Junction.
Speaking at the rally, Oyebode Musbahudeen, the Offa coordinator for the Salihu Yakubu Danladi (SYD) movement, said the endorsement was a strategic move to ensure a generational shift in the state’s leadership.
“We are here to send a clear message: we are endorsing President Tinubu for a second term and Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi for Governor in 2027,” Musbahudeen said.
“Hon. Danladi represents the youth. It is time for the younger generation to lead and for the elders to step aside and provide guidance from the back while we drive the changes we want to see.”
On his part, Suleiman Olatunji Omituntun, Executive Chairman of Offa LG, described the speaker as the “perfect successor” to sustain the legacies of AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, governor of the state.
“Under his leadership as speaker, we have seen unprecedented stability and zero rifts in the house of assembly,” Omituntun said.
“He is here to serve us and ensure the progress started by Governor AbdulRazaq continues seamlessly.” He added.
The rally drew a high-powered attendance of party stalwarts and local leaders, signifying a unified stance within the Offa APC structure.
Dignitaries present at the event included Nasiru Adekunle Moshood Adegboye, Offa APC chairman; Sarafadeen Mustapha, speaker of the Offa legislative council; Latifah Biola Olanrewaju; and Gbadamosi Shao, APC south-west ward chairman.
The endorsement in Offa, a major political nerve center in Kwara south marks a significant milestone for the Speaker’s governorship aspirations.
9japarrot reports that throughout the event, supporters chanted slogans of “continuity” and “youth inclusion,” signaling that the SYD movement is gaining traction across the senatorial districts.
The rally concluded with a peaceful procession, as traders and residents came out in large numbers to cheer the party faithful.
