Democracy Must Reflect the Hopes and Aspirations of the People – Odetundun

As Nigeria commemorates the 2026 Democracy Day, the Member representing Irepodun Constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Olushola Odetundun, has called for renewed commitment to the principles that give democracy its true meaning: accountability, service, justice, and respect for the will of the people.

According to him, democracy is not merely measured by periodic elections, but by the extent to which governance improves lives, expands opportunities, protects rights, and inspires confidence among citizens.

“Democracy flourishes when leaders listen, institutions remain strong, and citizens continue to participate actively in shaping the future of their communities. The enduring lesson of June 12 is that the voice of the people remains the foundation upon which every democratic society must stand,” he stated.

Hon. Odetundun further expressed appreciation to the people of Irepodun Constituency for their unwavering support, trust, and active engagement in the democratic process. He reaffirmed his commitment to responsive representation, impactful legislation, and sustained advocacy for policies that promote development and improve the welfare of the people.

“As we mark another Democracy Day, let us move beyond remembrance to responsibility. Let us strengthen our institutions, uphold the rule of law, and work collectively towards a safe Nigeria where democratic dividends are not promises, but everyday realities for our people.”

He wished the people of Irepodun Constituency, Kwarans, and Nigerians a large peaceful and meaningful Democracy Day celebration.
