Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwo has said she takes pleasure in portraying villainous characters, explaining that her roles are intended to reflect societal realities rather than define her personality.
Popularly known as “Mama G”, Ozokwo stated in a recent Instagram post that she uses her performances to expose social ills that many people prefer to ignore.
According to her, while she is nothing like the wicked characters she often plays on screen, she finds purpose in bringing such roles to life. “I feel bold to expose the ills in society. Those things happen, and nobody wants to expose them. I am exposing them,” she said. She added, “I am not like that, but I expose it. I am extremely proud of myself, and Mama G lovers are proud of me.”
With a career spanning several decades, Ozokwo has become one of the most recognisable figures in Nollywood, gaining widespread fame for her authoritative and often antagonistic roles, including manipulative mothers-in-law and cruel stepmothers.
Her appearances in notable productions such as Authority, Living in Bondage, and Submission helped cement her status as a major force in the Nigerian film industry. Through such roles, she has consistently highlighted darker aspects of human relationships and contributed to the growth of the sector.
Despite being frequently typecast as an antagonist, she has maintained a strong bond with audiences and evolved from a regional television figure into a nationally celebrated icon. She remains respected for her longevity, professionalism, and continued commitment to using film as a mirror of societal issues.
