The Kwara State Police Command will launch a full-scale, statewide enforcement operation targeting vehicles with covered, obscured, unauthorized, defaced, altered, or missing registration number plates.
The aggressive clampdown in a decisive move to neutralize criminal mobility and enhance public safety, scheduled to commence on Monday, June 15, 2026 is in strict compliance with the national security directives issued by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM aimed at denying criminal elements the opportunity to conceal their identities during operations.
An official security dispatch signed on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi (ANIPR) and made available to 9japarrot media confirmed that executive directives have already been handed down to all operational arms of the command.
The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command CP Ojo Adekimi, psc, mnips has ordered all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and the State Traffic Officer to immediately deploy personnel to their respective Areas of Responsibility to ensure absolute compliance, the statement revealed.
Under the strict operational guidelines issued to the field officers, any vehicle caught violating the registration laws will be immediately impounded and subjected to rigorous forensic investigation. The command has made it clear that the rules will be applied blindly across all strata of society, warning that no preferential treatment or exemptions will be granted to any individual, corporate body, or agency, regardless of political status or social influence.
According to the statement, motorists and commercial vehicle owners are therefore strongly advised to immediately strip off any illegal coverings, plastic tints, or custom obstructions shielding their registration numbers. Drivers must ensure that only valid, government-issued plates are clearly displayed on their bumpers at all times, while keeping all vehicle ownership documents up to date and available for roadside inspection.
The state police command explained that the enforcement drive is a necessary response to a dangerous trend where syndicate groups, kidnappers, and armed robbers increasingly use unregistered or masked vehicles to bypass security checkpoints and escape detection after committing crimes.
“This exercise is not intended to inconvenience law-abiding citizens,” the police statement clarified. “Still, it is a deliberate and proactive security measure aimed at improving the identification of vehicles, enhancing criminal investigations, tracking fleeing suspects, and strengthening the overall security architecture of Kwara State.” the statement added.
The Police Chief warned that anyone operating a vehicle in violation of these guidelines does so at their own peril and will face the full weight of the law. While enforcement teams have been sternly instructed to execute their duties with the highest level of professionalism and civility, they have also been empowered to act without fear or favor.
