Tunisia, Haiti and Türkiye Exit 2026 World Cup as Group Stage Eliminations Begin

By Monsurat Abisoye

At least three nations have been eliminated from the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Tunisia becoming the latest side to exit following a 4-0 defeat to Japan in Monterrey on Sunday.

Tunisia, known as the Carthage Eagles, had earlier suffered a 5-1 loss to Sweden in their opening Group F fixture. With zero points from two matches and a maximum of only three points still available, they can no longer progress to the Round of 32.

They now join Haiti and Türkiye as the first teams to be knocked out of the tournament.

In Group C, Brazil secured a comfortable 3-0 win over Haiti in Philadelphia, confirming the Caribbean side’s elimination. Haiti sit bottom of the group with no points from two matches and a goal difference of -4, making their final fixture against Morocco on 24 June a dead rubber.

Elsewhere, Türkiye were eliminated in Group D after a 1-0 defeat to Paraguay at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium. The result left them pointless after two matches, sealing their exit with one group game still remaining.
