Salah Enters Record Books as One of Africa’s Top World Cup Goal Contributors

Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah has joined the list of African footballers with the highest combined goals and assists in FIFA World Cup history.

The Liverpool forward reached the milestone after scoring and providing an assist in Egypt’s 3–1 comeback victory over New Zealand on Monday.

According to OptaJoe, Salah now has a total of three goals and two assists in World Cup competition, placing him among Africa’s top contributors in the tournament’s history. He sits behind Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan and Cameroon legend Roger Milla on the all-time list.

The ranking of African players with the most combined goals and assists at the World Cup is as follows: Asamoah Gyan (6 goals, 3 assists), Roger Milla (5 goals, 1 assist), Wahbi Khazri (3 goals, 2 assists), and Mohamed Salah (3 goals, 2 assists).

Speaking after the match, Salah expressed delight at the achievement, saying it was a shared success for the team and coaching staff. He added that the squad would enjoy the moment briefly before turning attention to their next fixture: “It’s incredible. It’s a great achievement for all the players, for the staff. We have to enjoy today, enjoy tomorrow, then focus on the next game.”
