The Kwara South Young Professionals in Politics (KSYPP) has called for political equity, fairness, and structural inclusion within the state’s political landscape, following a comprehensive review of regional representation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The socio-political organization made the call during a press conference in Ilorin, declaring its total and unreserved support for the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the state.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the Convener, Lukman Abdulquadri Jimba, alongside the Secretary, Owodunni Rasheed Adekunle, stated that the endorsement of Speaker Danladi is rooted in a deep commitment to justice and long-term regional stability, rather than personal interests or sectional sentiments.
According to him, a critical analysis of Kwara State’s political history reveals an imbalance in governance opportunities among the three senatorial districts. He noted that since the state’s creation, Kwara Central has occupied the governorship seat for approximately twenty years, while Kwara South has held the position for eight years, leaving Kwara North without an elected governor despite its enormous contributions to electoral victories and political stability.
“This is not a complaint. It is not an attempt to create division. It is simply an acknowledgement of reality and a call for fairness. As a people, we in Kwara South have always advocated justice and equitable representation. We believe that a political system thrives when every section feels included and valued,” Jimba said.
The group observed that the people of Kwara North have remained loyal partners in the progressive movement for decades, standing firmly behind past leaders from other zones. He added that the time has come to reciprocate that loyalty and demonstrate that the commitment to fairness is a living principle.
Jimba further explained that their support for Speaker Danladi extends beyond geopolitical considerations, highlighting the monarch-endorsed lawmaker’s exceptional public service record, competence, and humility. As a two-term Speaker, academic, and administrator, Danladi is described as a leader who perfectly combines youthful energy with deep institutional experience, making him prepared for the task of building a greater Kwara.
The KSYPP utilized the forum to appeal to all former aspirants who participated in the APC primary process to embrace internal reconciliation mechanisms and unite behind the party’s choice, noting that democracy produces only one winner at a time.
“The All Progressives Congress remains one united family. Differences should be resolved through dialogue and established party mechanisms rather than actions capable of weakening our collective strength. At this critical moment, unity remains our greatest asset,” the group stated.
The professionals also expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, for their political courage in zoning the ticket to Kwara North and encouraging generational renewal.
The organization concluded by reaffirming its total loyalty to Governor AbdulRazaq as the undisputed leader of the APC in Kwara, highly commending his administration’s unprecedented developmental strides in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and security across all sixteen local government areas.
