Demonstrating the open-door policy and commitment to youth-led initiatives of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, the Senior Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Digital Innovations, Hon. Kayode Ishola, received 16-year-old Ilorin-born innovator, Habibullah Yunus Shittu, in his office on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
The meeting followed the viral circulation of a video on X (formerly Twitter), which showcased Habibullah’s project under Shelby Robotics a functional restaurant robot designed to automate service tasks, such as taking orders and transporting items across distances.
Habibullah’s creation seamlessly integrates web technology, robotics, electronics, and software programming. Bypassing traditional physical controls, the robot enables users to issue commands remotely via a custom web platform accessible from any smartphone or computer.
Speaking on his vision, Habibullah stated:
“My goal is to keep improving this technology and eventually develop advanced robots capable of solving complex challenges across various industries.”
Receiving the young developer, Hon. Kayode Ishola highlighted the state government’s dedication to nurturing local talent and bridging the gap between innovative youth and executive leadership.
“Your video went viral on Sunday, and by Tuesday, you are here presenting your project to a government official. This swift engagement clearly demonstrates that Kwara State Government, under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON, is deeply invested in home-grown innovations and remains accessible to young creators,” Kayode said.
“His Excellency has consistently prioritized human capital development and tech infrastructure, from establishing the Ilorin Innovation Hub to championing the Kwara Coding and Digital Literacy Programme across public schools, among other interventions”. He added
Encouraging the 16-year-old developer to expand his scope, Hon. Kayode advised him to think beyond restaurant automation.
“Consider the broader applications for organizations and individuals requiring smart automation systems. Focus your next phase of development on three core pillars: durability, affordability, and a robust support system.” He added.
In a major boost for the teenage innovator, Hon. Kayode announced that Habibullah will be given a platform to display his work to key stakeholders and policymakers at the upcoming Kwara Coding and Digital Literacy Programme Exhibition.
“You will have the privilege of showcasing Shelby Robotics to top government officials in Nigeria and potential private investors at the state exhibition,” Hon. Kayode concluded.
The reception reflects Kwara State’s growing stature as an emerging technology hub in Nigeria, driven by accessible leadership, targeted infrastructure investments, and sustained encouragement of indigenous talent.
