A political analyst and University of Ilorin alumnus, George Adetoro has defended PDP Chieftain and Twinsfaja Group Executive Director, Chief Otunola Adebayo Awoniyi, describing his political alignment as legitimate participation aimed at deepening democratic governance in Kwara State.
In a commentary on Friday, Adetoro criticized recent attacks directed at Awoniyi over his support for the Kwara State PDP Governorship ambition of Engr. Bolakale Kawu and the House of Representatives candidacy of Chief Joseph Adewole Gbenga (Obanla) for the Ekiti/Isin/Irepodun/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Reflecting on their university days as hostel mates and classmates in Political Science, Adetoro stated that Awoniyi’s strategic acumen, generosity, and entrepreneurial background give his political engagements intellectual depth and practical credibility.
“Otunola’s commitment to Engr. Bolakale Kawu’s governorship ambition and the House of Representatives aspiration of Chief Joseph Adewole Gbenga expresses a clear political direction,” Adetoro noted.
“His opponents cannot reasonably expect him to abandon his convictions because his organizational efforts inconvenience their ambitions.” He added.
He urged APC supporters and political critics to engage in policy substance, candidate track records, and development agendas rather than launching personal attacks against opposition figures exercising their constitutional rights.
Adetoro added that Kwara State’s democracy thrives on competitive political platforms, asserting that no single political party or interest group holds an exclusive claim to community loyalty or governance authority.
