Nollywood filmmaker and actor, Kunle Afod, has said that actors have a stronger love for their profession than their spouses, noting that their dedication to the craft can sometimes affect their marriages.
Afod made the remark while discussing the difficulties entertainers face in balancing their careers with family life.
His comments come months after his separation from his wife, Desola Afod.
Speaking in an interview with Kasnasty Sugar on YouTube on Thursday, the actor said his passion for acting outweighs his affection for his wife and other people, adding that genuinely committed actors could choose their careers over their relationships.
Explaining his devotion to the entertainment industry, Afod disclosed that he sometimes goes as long as six months without communicating with his children.
He also revealed that he had turned down several opportunities to relocate abroad because of his commitment to acting.
The filmmaker maintained that nothing could make him abandon his career, insisting that he was born to pursue his passion.
He said, “I was born for this and I will die for it.
“What we actors love most is our work, not our wife. We love the job we do more than anything else. If you’re a creative person, you will love art more than any other thing.
“That’s why it’s not easy for our partners to cope because they see art as their rival. It’s only when you don’t love acting that you will consider leaving it for your wife or husband, but if you truly love the job, you will prefer to let go of anybody for it.
“Sometimes I don’t call my kids in six months. Nobody can hinder me. I was born for this and I will die for it. I had the opportunity to relocate abroad so many years ago, but I didn’t embrace it because of this same job.”
