Court nullifies ADC processes that produced Atiku as 2027 presidential candidate

Justice Peter Odo Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has nullified all processes of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, that led to the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s candidate for the 2027 general election.

In a judgment delivered on Thursday, the judge also nullified the emergence of former Senate President David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola and others as national officers of the party.

The court further cancelled the nominations of all candidates presented by the ADC for the 2027 general elections, on the grounds that they emerged under what it described as an illegal and unlawful party leadership.

Justice Lifu upheld the suit filed by Nafiu Bala Gombe, a Deputy National Chairman of the ADC, who challenged the emergence of David Mark and Aregbesola as leaders of the party.

The judge held that all actions taken by the David Mark-led leadership in the name of the ADC were unlawful and consequently nullified them.

The judgment throws the party’s leadership structure and preparations for the 2027 general elections into uncertainty.
