The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old housewife, Salamatu Danjuma, for allegedly stabbing her husband to death during a heated argument over child custody.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Command’s spokesman, SP Wakil Mohammed, the tragic incident occurred in Nadabo village, located in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The dispute reportedly stemmed from a disagreement regarding the custody of Salamatu’s six-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.
The statement revealed that the couple initially agreed to bring the child into their home, but the husband later changed his mind, causing tensions to rise.
In a heated argument that later ensued, Salamatu allegedly grabbed a knife from their bedroom and fatally stabbed her husband.
Responding to a distress call, detectives from the Bununu Police Division rushed to the scene and evacuated the victim to Cottage Hospital, Bununu, where he was confirmed dead.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a discreet investigation, assuring that appropriate legal actions will be taken.
The suspect remains in custody as operatives of the command continue their probe into the case.
