The Kwara Central Advancement Elders Forum, a group comprising card-carrying members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Asa, Ilorin West, Ilorin East, and Ilorin South Local Government Areas, has declared that the 2027 Kwara State governorship contest is an open contest.
In a press conference held at the NUJ Press Centre in Ilorin, the group’s spokesperson, Arch. Akanbi Lamidi, stated that a group claiming to be “Kwara Central APC Elders” had no mandate to endorse the Kwara North Senatorial district for the governorship of Kwara State in 2027.
Lamidi emphasized that any claims of a 2019 agreement on zoning arrangements must be backed up with evidence, challenging anyone making such claims to present the purported document. He expressed appreciation for Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s leadership, noting that he has led the state with distinction and ensured inclusive governance across all zones.
The forum highlighted the demographic significance of Kwara Central, which is the most populous and politically active senatorial district in Kwara State, with over 40% of the state’s total voting population residing in Ilorin West, Ilorin East, Ilorin South, and Asa Local Government Areas.
The group cautioned against actions that could undermine the party’s peace, unity, and future, emphasizing the need for collective effort to achieve victory in 2027. They reaffirmed the party’s commitment to transparency, fairness, unity, and collective effort in achieving electoral success.
