The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, expressed his dissatisfaction with the quality of work on the Abuja-Lokoja road.
During a meeting with contractors in Abuja, Umahi criticized the poor quality of work on various sites, including the Abuja-Lokoja Road and Lokoja-Benin Road.
He even threatened to revoke the job certificates of contractors who abandoned any site in the country. Umahi inspected eight projects on the Abuja-Lokoja road and was disappointed with the results. He questioned how contractors could accept money for a job and not complete it properly.
Umahi emphasized the importance of prioritizing the people’s needs over personal interests. He mentioned that during a recent flood, the road closure caused shortages in medical supplies, food, and petroleum in Abuja, which could have been prevented with proper infrastructure design.
Umahi reiterated the President’s mandate to improve road infrastructure in Nigeria and vowed to hold all contractors accountable.
He encouraged contractors to adopt concrete pavement for road construction, as it offers durability and longevity.
