Commissioner Lade Inspects Asa, Sobi and Agba Dam Water Works, Reiterates Govt Readiness To Fix Water Challenges

 

The Commissioner for the Ministry of Water Resources, Usman Yunusa Lade, has paid a inspection visit to Asa, Sobi and Agba Dam Water Works in Ilorin respectfully with a view to intimating him of the challenges facing the Dams.

While at Asa Dam Water Works, the Commissioner observed that the on-going rehabilitation at Dam was at it peak, stressing that the contractor handling the project is now fixing the lamina plates at the treatment plant.

Honourable Lade emphasized that as soon as the fixing of lamina plates is completed the Water Works will resume its full operation of supplying water to the designated areas under its coverage.

Lade said that the state government is doing humanly possible to alleviate the challenges facing the Water Works, noting that the necessary measures will soon be put in place to allow smooth operation of the Dams.

Intimating the Commissioner and Permanent Secretary, Mrs Asonibare Omolola Christiana, who has just been deployed to the Ministry following His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, recent redeployment of Permanent Secretaries in the state, the Ilorin Zonal Engineer, Engr. Owolabi Hakeem, briefed the duo of the challenges of human activities in Asa-Dam.

While at Sobi Water Works, Director Water Engineering Services, Engr Yusuf Wapo, informed the the Commissioner that the Dam has been over grown by sand and grasses which caused the diversion of water from the main Dam.

Engr. Wopa said that this has made the Dam to fail to retain water, adding that the state government will have to intervene in order to proffer solutions to lingering problem.


Similarly, the Commanding Officer Contaument Maintenance Group, Sobi Barracks Ilorin, Lt. Col. Sunday Eche, who was also on the site to receive the Commissioner and Permanent Secretary, appealed to the state government to intervene to alleviate their suffering as Sobi Water Works is the only source of water supply to the Barracks.

In Commissioner’s Entourage was the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Asonibare Omolola Christiana; Director Water Engineering Services, Engr. Yusuf Wapo; Kwara State Water Corporation Secretary, Alhaji Buhari Kayode Sani; other staff of the Ministry and Kwara State Water Corporation.
