The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has sustained its aerial surveillance operations in support of ongoing efforts to rescue teachers and pupils abducted from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
This was disclosed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde during a courtesy visit by the representative of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, and the Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Logistics Command, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Suleh, on June 5, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Information of the NAF, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Governor Makinde revealed that the Air Force promptly deployed an aerial surveillance platform immediately after the abduction was reported.
The governor noted that the surveillance missions have provided critical intelligence to support search-and-rescue operations. He explained that intelligence gathered from the aerial operations continues to assist security agencies in tracking developments and coordinating efforts aimed at securing the safe release of the victims.
Makinde appealed to residents of the affected communities and the general public to remain patient and supportive, assuring them that all necessary resources are being deployed to ensure a successful resolution of the situation.
He also commended the Chief of the Air Staff and the Nigerian Air Force for their swift intervention and continued support.
According to the statement, the governor acknowledged that the NAF made the surveillance platform available at a time when Oyo State’s newly acquired aerial assets are still being assembled at the NAF Base in Lagos.
Makinde further explained that the state government acquired the aerial platforms following consultations with the Nigerian Air Force to guarantee access to maintenance support, engineering expertise, and pilot training.
He expressed confidence that the new assets, once fully operational, would significantly strengthen security operations across Oyo State and neighbouring states.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Suleh conveyed the solidarity of the Nigerian Air Force with the government and people of Oyo State.
He reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to supporting ongoing efforts to secure the safe return of the abducted teachers and pupils, while also commending the state government for its continued support for NAF projects and infrastructure development within the state.
The statement added that the Nigerian Air Force remains committed to collaborating closely with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to safeguard lives and property, while supporting efforts to tackle security challenges across the country.
The abduction of the teachers and pupils from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities has continued to generate concern among residents, with security agencies intensifying efforts to ensure the victims are rescued unharmed.
