AC Milan have confirmed the appointment of Ruben Amorim as their new manager, replacing Massimiliano Allegri at the San Siro.
Amorim, who has been without a club since being dismissed by Manchester United in January, takes over the Serie A side with immediate effect.
In his first remarks after the announcement, the Portuguese coach said managing Milan had long been one of his career ambitions.
“There are ambitions that accompany you throughout your career and, for me, coaching Milan has always been one of them,” he said.
He described the club as one with immense history and global prestige, adding that he fully understands the responsibility that comes with leading the team.
“I know perfectly well what AC Milan represents: history, prestige and extraordinary fans all over the world. It is a challenge that I face with pride and enthusiasm, with full awareness of what these colours mean,” Amorim stated.
He added that he is eager to begin work and experience the passion surrounding the club on a daily basis, saying: “I can’t wait to start and live every day the passion that animates Milan.”
