Senator Kalu Ward Tour Across Abia North Ends with Rousing Reception, as Constituents Commend His Performance

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s ward-to-ward tour across Abia North Senatorial District has just ended but attracted enthusiastic receptions from residents, traditional rulers, community leaders, youths, women and political stakeholders, with constituents acknowledging his interventions in infrastructure, education, human capital development and other areas of community life.

The tour, which took the former Abia State governor to communities across the five local government areas of Abia North in the past three to four weeks, provided an opportunity for the senator to interact directly with the people, present his record of representation and listen to their concerns and expectations.

The five local government areas are Arochukwu, Bende, Isuikwuato, Ohafia and Umunneochi.

At the various stops, residents turned out in large numbers to welcome the senator, with many describing his representation as impactful and citing projects and interventions they said had touched their lives.

The engagements have also provided a platform for community members to express appreciation for completed and ongoing projects while drawing attention to areas requiring further government intervention.

In Isuikwuato Local Government Area, the tour took Kalu to several communities, including Oguduasa, Avuvu, Nunya, Isuamawu in Eluama, Umubiala and Otamkpa, among other locations.

The visits featured interactions with community leaders, youths, women and other residents, who highlighted the importance of infrastructure, education and empowerment initiatives to their communities.

In one of the engagements in Isuikwuato, constituents described Kalu as the best senator to have represented the district, pointing to what they considered visible interventions in roads, classroom construction and renovation, educational materials, scholarships, business support and skills development.

The residents also commended the senator’s direct engagement with the grassroots, noting that his visits had given them an opportunity to communicate their needs and assess his performance.

The reception in Isuikwuato was particularly remarkable in some communities where residents gathered despite heavy rainfall to participate in the meetings and interact with the senator.

Reports from the tour indicated that constituents appreciated the opportunity to speak directly with their representative while requesting additional projects to address infrastructure and development gaps.

The tour subsequently moved to Ohafia Local Government Area, where Kalu received another rousing welcome from residents, traditional rulers, women, youths and political stakeholders.

During the visit, he toured several communities and wards, including Amangwu, Okon, Amuma, Ndi Ibe/Ufiele, Eziafor/Ndi Orieke, Asaga and Amuke, as well as Abia Ohafia, Akanu, Ndi Uduma Awoke, Isiugwu and Army Barracks Ward.

Community members at different stops expressed appreciation for what they described as his long standing relationship with the people and his contributions to development in the area.

Residents particularly identified road projects as some of the visible benefits of his representation, explaining that improved road access would benefit farmers, traders, schoolchildren and other community members.

At one of the engagements, a resident, Elizabeth Ojah, stressed the importance of road infrastructure to the livelihoods of rural communities, saying, “When a road is constructed in your community, everybody benefits from it. Our farmers, traders, children and families use these roads.”

She expressed appreciation for the interventions while calling for more projects to meet the needs of the people.

Kalu, in his response to constituents during the tour, explained that some road projects initially classified as low-priority rural and farm roads had required further intervention to secure improvements beyond basic grading.

He said he would continue to push for more federal projects and work towards the completion of existing ones.

The senator also met with traditional rulers and community leaders, emphasising the importance of their partnership in promoting development, preserving cultural values and addressing the concerns of their people.

Beyond road construction, education and youth development have featured prominently in discussions during the tour.

Kalu’s constituency interventions have included classroom construction and renovation, the provision of educational materials and support for young people pursuing academic and skills-development opportunities.

His educational initiatives have also included scholarships for students, with eight beneficiaries studying Medicine and Surgery at the Latin American School of Medicine in Cuba. Young people have also benefited from international training opportunities in fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics and cybersecurity.

According to figures previously released by his office, more than 100 schools across Abia North have benefited from classroom construction, renovation and related educational interventions, while road projects have also been facilitated in communities across the district.

The interventions have featured in discussions with constituents, although residents have continued to identify additional needs, particularly in rural road infrastructure, education, employment and support for small businesses.

The tour has therefore served not only as an occasion for celebration and appreciation but also as an opportunity for residents to make further demands on their representative.

For Kalu, who has represented Abia North in the Senate since 2019, the ward engagements provide an avenue to reconnect with constituents, explain his legislative and constituency activities and obtain feedback on issues requiring attention.

The senator has maintained that direct engagement with the people is important to effective representation, as it enables him to understand the specific challenges confronting individual communities and identify areas where further interventions are necessary.

Across the communities visited, the warm receptions and commendations from residents have underscored the importance of grassroots engagement in the relationship between elected representatives and their constituents.

While community members have acknowledged projects and programmes they believe have positively affected their lives, their requests for additional interventions have also highlighted the continuing demand for infrastructure, educational opportunities and economic development across Abia North.

The tour has reinforced the expectation among constituents that their representative should remain accessible, listen to their concerns and continue to pursue projects capable of improving living conditions across the district.

As the ward-to-ward engagements draw attention to both achievements and outstanding needs, the central message from the communities has been the importance of sustained engagement, accountability and continued development across Abia North.
