Popular Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has criticised Nigeria’s democratic system, saying the country is not practising true democracy.
The singer made the remarks during a recent episode of the One54 Podcast, where he explained why he believed his colleague, Davido, appealed to United States President Donald Trump to pay attention to the recently held Osun State governorship election.
According to Adekunle Gold, Davido’s appeal may have been influenced by concerns over the state of democracy and governance in Nigeria.
The ‘Orente’ crooner said Nigeria was not operating as a true democratic society because the country was not fully meeting the standards expected of a democracy.
He, however, expressed hope that the administration of President Bola Tinubu would perform better than the previous government by promoting good governance and upholding democratic values.
“I think Davido sent that message to Donald Trump because we are not truly practising democracy in Nigeria. We are not doing what a democratic society should do. I just hope this administration does better than the previous one,” he said.
