Police Arrest Four Suspects Over Gun Possession, Alleged Rape In Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three suspects over alleged illegal possession and fabrication of firearms in Misau Local Government Area of the state.

The command also arrested a 26-year-old man, Lukman Alhaji Nasiru, for allegedly raping a 50-year-old woman with mental illness in Gamawa Local Government Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, saying the arrests were part of efforts to curb illegal arms possession and sexual offences across the state.

According to the statement, police operatives attached to the Misau Division on September 25, 2026, intercepted 30-year-old Abubakar Ahmad, popularly known as Tino, of Makara Huta Quarters, Misau.

He was allegedly found in possession of a locally fabricated pistol loaded with a live cartridge.

The police said preliminary investigations showed that Ahmad was attempting to hand over the firearm to 35-year-old Tijjani Yakubu, who is currently being held at a correctional centre over alleged criminal conspiracy, theft and receiving stolen property.

During interrogation, Yakubu allegedly admitted that the pistol belonged to him and that he had given it to Ahmad for safekeeping.

He reportedly told investigators that he purchased the firearm from 48-year-old Bappah Kawu, a welder from Tashar Masu, Misau.

Following the disclosure, police arrested Kawu, who allegedly confessed to fabricating and selling the pistol to Yakubu for N30,000.

A search of Kawu’s workshop also led to the recovery of two locally fabricated Dane guns and several items allegedly used in making firearms, including a hacksaw, files and long iron pipes.

The police said the three suspects were still in custody and that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation.

In a separate incident in Gamawa, the police arrested Lukman Alhaji Nasiru, 26, of Garin Malam Village, over the alleged rape of a 50-year-old woman with mental illness.

The police said the victim’s younger brother reported the incident at the Gamawa Divisional Police Headquarters on September 25.

According to the report, Nasiru allegedly lured the woman to the outskirts of Garin Malam on September 22, where he allegedly had unlawful sexual intercourse with her.

Following the complaint, police arrested the suspect and took both him and the victim to the General Hospital, Gamawa, for medical examination.

The command said investigation into the alleged rape was ongoing.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, warned that the command would not tolerate illegal possession or fabrication of firearms and sexual offences.

He also urged residents to provide credible information that could assist the police in preventing and investigating criminal activities across the state.
