Ampem Darkoa head coach, Charles Anokye Frimpong, has criticised Edo Queens over their decision to petition the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following the WAFU B Women’s Champions League final in Cairo, Egypt.
Edo Queens had reportedly called for the annulment of the continuation of the final, citing concerns over the circumstances surrounding the rescheduled encounter.
The Nigerian side raised three major objections, including the alleged unauthorised relocation of the match from Ouagadougou to Cairo without the required confirmation from WAFU B in line with CAF’s decision.
The club also accused the organisers of failing to restore proper sporting conditions, claiming it was prevented from fielding eligible players who featured in the original match. It further expressed dissatisfaction with the accommodation arrangements, alleging that its delegation was lodged at a military base instead of a conventional team hotel.
However, Frimpong argued that Edo Queens should have raised their concerns before the match rather than waiting until after the outcome.
Speaking to 3Sports GH, the Ampem Darkoa coach said there had been several meetings with WAFU officials before the game to discuss the arrangements, but Edo Queens did not formally protest at the time.
He said, “There were series of meetings with the WAFU organisers on how they wanted things to be played out.
“They didn’t protest then. They came down to Egypt, and we were at the military base together with Edo Queens. We trained and played the game.
“After the match, when I saw the publication, I didn’t want to give attention to that because they knew the organisers faulted. Instead of them protesting with Ampem Darkoa, they were comfortable.
“If we had played the game, including the remaining extra time that day, they (Edo Queens) could have won. Sometimes, if you don’t respect football, these are some of the things that could happen to you.”
