Nollywood actress Juliana Olayode has defended women who desire marriage, saying the wish to become a wife does not make a woman desperate or without purpose.
Olayode made this known in a post on her Instagram page, where she urged people to respect women’s different choices and allow them to pursue the kind of life they desire without criticism.
The actress said women who are comfortable being single or have no interest in marriage should be respected, just as women who desire marriage should not be mocked or shamed for expressing their wishes.
She stressed that wanting a husband does not mean a woman is desperate, adding that being excited about marriage does not take away from her ambitions, achievements or sense of purpose.
“Wanting to get married is not a personality disorder,” she wrote.
Olayode acknowledged that marriage can come with challenges and that some unions end painfully. However, she noted that many people still consider marriage a beautiful institution and hope to experience it.
The actress also recalled an encounter at a salon where she overheard some women criticising another woman for saying she wanted to get married. She said she shared her opinion during the conversation and later found the situation amusing after discovering a “BRIDE” swimsuit gifted to her by a friend in 2024.
According to her, people have the right to decide that marriage is not for them, but they should extend the same freedom to those who wish to get married.
She added that women can aspire to different things, including faith, purpose, career growth, financial stability, friendship, family and marriage.
Olayode concluded by wishing women who desire marriage good partners and fulfilling unions, ending her message with, “Up Love! Up Marriage!”
