Nigeria At 66: BBYDI Demands Fiscal Transparency, Youth Inclusion, Civic Vigilance Ahead of 2027

As Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary on Thursday, October 1, 2026, the Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI) has called on citizens to renew their commitment to national unity while demanding strict fiscal accountability and youth-centered governance from public institutions.

In an official press statement released in Ilorin and signed by BBYDI Communications Director, Sanni Alausa-Issa, and obtained by 9japarrot media, the youth-led civil society organization urged governments at all levels to ensure that fiscal savings realized from major economic reforms, particularly fuel subsidy removal, translate into verifiable social benefits for ordinary Nigerians.

Highlighting the economic pressures facing households, BBYDI emphasized that patriotism requires citizen-led oversight of public expenditure.

“The Federal Government has reported substantial fiscal savings and additional resources arising from subsidy reforms,” the statement read.

“Nigerians deserve accessible and verifiable information showing how these resources are being allocated and the results they are producing in their communities.” It added.

BBYDI called on the Federal, State, and Local Governments to publish comprehensive disclosures on reform revenue allocations, expenditures, specific projects, list of beneficiaries, and measurable outcomes in healthcare, education, transport, and job creation.

Addressing the upcoming 2027 general elections, BBYDI cautioned against the weaponization of ethnic and religious diversity, calling on young Nigerians to move beyond social media discourse and engage directly in democratic processes.

The organization urged youth to reject political violence, combat misinformation, and evaluate political candidates based on competence, character, and track records.

“Young Nigerians must not be treated merely as beneficiaries of government programmes,” Alausa-Issa noted.

“They must have meaningful opportunities to participate in governance, contribute to policy decisions, build enterprises, and shape the future of their communities.” the statement added.

BBYDI further called on electoral authorities, security agencies, and political parties to uphold a level playing field, ensuring that the 2027 electoral cycle remains transparent, competitive, and free from intimidation or manipulation.

Reaffirming its commitment to democratic development, BBYDI urged citizens to remain steadfast in defending civic rights and building a responsive, equitable nation.
