Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu on Tuesday paid tribute to a deceased former colleague from Katsina State while demanding a comprehensive safety audit of military and presidential aircraft following the tragic Nigerian Air Force (NAF) plane crash in Ondo State.

Speaking as the Senate resumed plenary after its recess, Senator Kalu expressed deep sorrow over the death of his friend and former colleague, describing his passing as a profound loss to his family, the people of Katsina State, and the nation at large.

“Life is transient, and moments like this remind us that what truly matters is the legacy we leave behind,” Kalu said, offering prayers for the bereaved family and commending the late lawmaker’s legacy of integrity, friendship, and dedicated public service.

Speaking in regards to the October 5 NAF ATR-42 aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State which claimed the lives of 25 military personnel and crew members, Senator Kalu stated that the tragedy must not be treated lightly.

The Lawmaker threw his full weight behind the Senate’s directive mandating the relevant committees on the Air Force and Aviation to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Senator Kalu emphasized the urgent need to conduct a thorough airworthiness audit on all military and presidential aircraft fleets to prevent future occurrences and safeguard the lives of service personnel making sacrifices for national security.
