Premier League: Iwobi Targets African Appearance Record

EPL: Iwobi eyes record as Africa’s most-capped Premier League player

Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has expressed his ambition to become the African player with the highest number of appearances in the English Premier League.

The Nigerian international moved into second place on the all-time list following Fulham’s 1-1 draw against Aston Villa at Villa Park last Saturday.

Iwobi had previously shared the second position with former Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah but has now moved ahead of the Egyptian.

The 30-year-old has made a total of 329 Premier League appearances across three clubs, having featured 100 times for Arsenal, 123 times for Everton and 106 times for Fulham.

Former Ivory Coast international Kolo Toure currently holds the record with 352 appearances in the competition.

Speaking to FFC TV, Iwobi said he was determined to surpass Toure’s record and establish himself as the African player with the most Premier League appearances.

“But I’m trying to break the record. I think Kolo Toure is up there, so I’ll keep my eyes going forward and see if I can break that,” he said.
