Iran’s Supreme Leader has warned that the ongoing Middle East conflict could escalate if the United States resumes military attacks against the country, dismissing expectations of a change in Washington’s policy following the recent midterm election results.
The warning came on Wednesday amid renewed threats by US President Donald Trump to restart military operations against Iran, alongside similar rhetoric from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Trump’s Republican Party suffered a major setback in Tuesday’s midterm elections, with the results expected to strip the party of control over Congress.
The electoral defeat could limit the president’s ability to advance his legislative agenda, although he retains the constitutional authority to order further military strikes.
