The “Friends of SYD” on Sunday hosted their Annual Ramadan Lecture and Iftar in honor of the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi Salihu.
The event, which brought together the “who’s who” of Kwara politics and religious leaders was timed specifically for the 26th day of Ramadan a strategic window leading into the sacred “odd nights” of the last ten days, where Muslims seek Laylatul Qadr (The Night of Decree).
Delivering his sermon, Chief Imam of Offa, Sheikh Muhydeen Salman Hussein on the topic titled “Justice (Adl) and Equity” while addressing an audience that included commissioners, lawmakers, and APC stalwarts emphasized that leadership is a temporary trust.
“No matter how big you are, you must be a person of equity and justice to succeed. Whether in politics or any position where you are ‘the boss,’ remember that someone else’s effort helped put you there. No place is permanent. Someone occupied your seat before you, and another will occupy it after you” He said .
The renowned scholar urges political office holders to let their story be one of fairness, and not let those under them suffer simply because they have the power to do so.
The Imam further praised the Speaker for maintaining a harmonious relationship with his colleagues in the House, noting that the presence of almost all Assembly members at the event was a testament to his inclusive leadership.

The program was structured into phases of deep spiritual intercession where Chief Imam of Tsaragi, Sheikh Muhammad Mustapha, and the Chief Imam of Shao, Sheikh Abdullah Mohammed, led prayers for peace, stability, and continued progress in Kwara State.
The Imam Imale of Ilorin, Sheikh Abdullahi AbdulHameed, led a special prayer for Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, commending his record-breaking achievements while also offering prayers for the repose of the soul of the Governor’s late father, the legendary AGF AbdulGaniyu Folorunsho Abdul-Razaq (SAN).
The gathering also featured a Fidau session which was led by the Chief Imam of Shao for the Speaker’s deceased parents, including his father, the late Alhaji Aliyu Salihu Gwanara, a renowned educationist and the Tafakin Borgu.
